What’s Your Why?

Today I’d like to talk about your big why.

Why do you want to be more conscious in your shopping?

Why you want to shop your wardrobe?

Why do you want to develop a healthier relationship to your wallet and your wardrobe?

So often we move from making a decision to moving into action.  We focus on the What, then quickly follow with the How.  And sure — the What and the How are important – they just aren’t the entire picture.

Why you need a why

Why is an important motivator.  It can keep you focused when your willpower runs low.

It can get you back on track if you get side-tracked.

It can act as a handrail to keep you steady and reassure you that you are making progress.

It can keep you powering on when you can’t decide to give up or go on.

So what’s your why?

Here are some of the big why’s I’ve heard recently from the beautiful, brave readers of this blog:

  • “I want to feel better about myself.  I shop every day but when I get home and look at my overflowing wardrobe, I feel miserable and deeply unhappy”.
  • “I need to make better use of what I already have.  I’m probably wearing less than 10% of my clothes, and every time I go in my closet, I’m reminded of what a huge opportunity I’m missing out on.”
  • “I’m so stressed about my finances – there’s got to be a better way!  I want to be able to do the things I love, like have a massage or take a weekend away.  Instead, I’m in debt from buying all these shoes!”

Your mission

Take a couple of minutes now and either jot your answers down, or simply reflect on these questions quietly.  You may want to chat to a friend about your big why.

  • Why do you want to be more conscious in your shopping?
